blipp is a fun way to share what is going on around in the world. When you choose to use blipp, you will inevitably share some information with my server. This will affect your privacy.
I am going to be upfront about the information that I collect, how I use it, whom I share it with, and the choices that I give you to control, access and update your information.
Information I Collect
There are three basic ways I collect information:
Information you choose to give to me.
Information I get automatically when you use my service.
Information I get from third parties.
Information You Choose to Give Me
When you interact with my service, I collect the information that you choose to share with me. For example, most of my services require you to set up a basic blipp account, so I need to collect a few important details about you: a unique username that you’d like to go by, a password, and an email address. You also have the option of providing me with your phone number if you want other people to discover you on blipp. Whenever you contact blipp support or communicate with me in any other way, I will collect whatever information you volunteer.
Information I Get Automatically When You Use My Services
When you use my services, I collect information about which of those service you’ve used and how you’ve used them. I might know, for instance, if you have followed someone, requested to follow someone, blocked someone, or if you have given someone points for their blipps. I also collect information about the people you message and what is said in the messages you sent for the purposes of showing them to the appropriate user.
Here’s a fuller explanation of the types of information I collect when you use my services.
Content Information. I collect the content that you provide as well as information about that content as well as metadata that is provided with the content.
I collect device-specific information, such as the hardware model, operating system version, unique device identifiers, language, wireless network, and mobile network information (including the mobile phone number).
I also collect device information that will help me diagnose and troublesome problems in the (hopefully rare) event you experience any crash or other problem while using my services.
Camera and Photos. Many of my services require me to collect images and other information from your device’s camera and photos. I will never access the camera unless you give the app your consent to do so.
Location Information. When you use my services. I will collect information about your location. However, that information will not be stored anywhere unless you blipp. When you blipp, the app will take into account where you are in the world to provide an accurate picture of what should be going on in your area. With your consent, I may collect information about your precise location using methods that include GPS, wireless networks, cell towers, and Wi-Fi access points.
Message Information: When you use my services, I will collect information about the messages you send. I will collect the contents of the message for the purposes of displaying thecorrect message to the correct user. I will collect the time you sent the message and who the message was sent to.
Usage Information: I collect information about how you navigate throughout the app and if you encounter any issues while navigating through the app. For instance if you attempt to create a blipp, and your app crashes, I will be informed of the error. I do this so that I can improve the app and iron out any bugs that I was unable to find during development.
Log Information. I collect log information when you use my services. That information includes, among other things:
details about how you’ve used my services
device information, such as your web browser type and language
pages you visited before navigating to our services
cookies that may uniquely identify your device or browed
Information I Collect from Third Parties
I may collect information about other third-party sources and combine that with the information I collect through my services. For instance, if another user enables us to access their contacts phonebook, and you are one of that user’s contacts, I may use that information to let that user find you on blipp. However, other users will only be able to discover you if you have specified that you want them to in the app’s settings.
How I Use Information
What do I do with the information I collect? The short answer is: To make a better product. But I do a lot more as well, such as:
Develop, improve, deliver, maintain, and protect my products and services
Communicate with you
Monitor and analyze trends and usage
Change the safety and security of my services
Verify your identity and prevent fraud or other unauthorized or illegal activity
Use information I’ve collected from cookies and other technology to enhance the services and your experience with them
I may also store some information locally on your device. For example, I may store information as a local cache so that you can open the app and view content faster.
Although, I welcome people to use blipp from all over the world, keep in mind that no matter where you live or where you happen to use my services, you consent to me processing and transferring information in and to the United States and there countries whose data-protection and privacy laws may offer fewer protections than those in your home country.
How I Share Information
I may share information about you in the following ways:
With Other blipp Users. I may share information about you with other blipp users: public information, such as your username; Information about how you have interacted with the services, such as your “points,” or if another user is following you.
With third parties. I may share your information with the following third parties:
With service providers, sellers, and partners. I may share information about you with service providers who perform services on my behalf, sellers that provide goods through my service, and business partners that provide services and functionality.
With third parties for legal reasons. I may share information about you if I believer that disclosing the information is needed to:
comply with any valid legal process, government request, or applicable law, rule or regulation;
investigate, remedy, or enforce potential Terms of Service violations;
protect the right, property, and safety of myself, my users, or others; or
detect and resolve any fraud or security concerns.
With third parties as part of a merger or acquisition. If I get involved in a merger, asset sale, financing or acquisition of some potion of my business to another company, I may share your information with that company before and after the transaction closes.
In the aggregate. I may also share with third parties, such as advertisers, aggregated or de-identified information that cannot be used to identify you.
Information You Choose to Share with Third Parties
The services may also contain third-party links, including third party integrations, or be cobranded or third-party-branded service that’s being provided jointly with or by another company. By going to those links, using the third-party integration, or using a co-branded or third-party-branded service, you may be providing information (including personal information) directly to the third party, me or both. You acknowledge and agree that I am not responsible for how those third parties collect or use your information. As always, I encourage you to review the privacy policies of every third-party website or service that you visit or use, including those third parties you interact with through my services.
blipp Deletion and Retention
blipp captures the world in the present moment. While blipps may be deleted from the map, they still stay on your profile.
You should understand that users who see your blipps and all of the content you provide can always save them, either by taking a screenshot or by using some other image-capture technology (whether that be software or even something as old-fashioned as a camera to take a photo of their device’s screen). I do not currently have any way to notify you if anyone screenshots your blipps. I would advise you to not blipp content that you would not others to associate yourself with.
A few final words on deletion: I cannot guarantee that the messages and their metadata will be deleted within a specific timeframe. Keep in mind that I may also retain certain information in backup for a limited period of time or as required by law. This is true even after I’ve deleted messages and corresponding metadata from my servers. I also may sometimes receive request from law enforcement requiring me by law to suspend my ordinary server deletion practices for specific information. Finally, of course, as with any digital information, there may be ways to access messages while still in temporary storage on other people’s devices, even after they are deleted.
Choice and Control Over Your Information
I want you to be in control of your information, so I let you update or correct your account information by letting you edit certain settings within the app. If you later change your mind about my ongoing ability to collect information from certain source that you have already consented to, such as your phonebook, camera, photos, or location services, you can simply revoke your consent by changing the setting on your device if you device offers those options. Of course, if you do that, certain services may lose full functionality. And while I hope you want to remain a lifelong blipp user, and you want to delete your account please look in your setting for the option to do so.
I don’t direct my Services to anyone under 13. And that’s why I do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If I am aware that a child under 13 has provided me with personal information, I will take steps to remove such information and terminate the child’s account.
